EFFECT OF TiO2 ADDITION ON BONDING STRENGTH OF CaO-P2O5 Na2O-TiO2 BIOACTIVE GLASS CERAMIC COATING

The effect of titanium dioxide addition on bonding strength of CaO-P2O5 -Na 2O-TiO2glass-ceramic system was investigated as a coating on titanium substrate. Thus, different amounts of TiO2 (2, 3.5 and 5mol %) were added to the base glass batch composition. The prepared glaze slips were applied on the substrate by dip coating method, dried and then heat treated at various temperatures. After tha...

Effect of surface roughness on coating SiO2-P2O5-CaO-ZrO2 upon Zirconium by Sol-Gel Method

Zirconium and its alloys have many applications in orthopedic medicine and compared to stainless steel, titanium and other metals used in the manufacture of implants has higher strength and corrosion resistance. Research shows that the method of preparation and surface modification before coating process has a significant impact on improving the metal implants among which include the sandblasti...

In vitro evaluation of apatite/wollastonite glass–ceramic nano biocoatings on 316 alloys by plasma-sprayed

Among bioactive ceramics, the apatite/wollastonite (A/W) glass ceramic, containing apatite and wollastonite crystals in the glassy matrix, has been largely studied because of good bioactivity and used in some fields of medicine, especially in orthopedics and dentistry. However, medical applications of bioceramic are limited to non-load bearing applications because of their poor mechanical prope...

Phlogopite glass-ceramic coatings on stainless steel substrate by plasma spray

Macor coatings on 316 alloys substrates were prepared by plasma spraying. The crystallization temperature, thermal expansion coefficient of mica glass-ceramic were at 900ºC and 40× 10−7/◦C respectively. The microhardness of obtained glass-ceramic coating was 6.8GPa and the coefficient friction was 0.98 .

Good short-term outcome of primary total hip arthroplasty with cementless bioactive glass ceramic bottom-coated implants

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Cementless total hip arthroplasty is currently favored by many orthopedic surgeons. The design of the porous surface is critically important for long-term fixation. We examined the clinical and radiographic outcome of the cementless titanium hip implant with a bottom coating of apatite-wollastonite containing bioactive glass ceramic. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed ...
